Journal 31-Mar-2023
On Monday, when doing my 10-mile run, I had this delusion that I would attempt a local half marathon on Saturday. I envisioned that the soreness from Monday’s run would dissipate by Wednesday, at which time I would run an easy 4-5 miles and be ready for a half marathon by Saturday. As the week progressed, and the soreness persisted, I doubted myself more and more. This morning I finally gave up the idea and headed out for a 10k run.
After 3 miles, my legs started to stiffen. A sign I was by no means ready for 13.1. I finished the 10K at a little over 10-minute miles, with a few short walking breaks to keep my heart rate in range. Afterwards, however, all the stiffness and soreness from earlier in the week returned, including significant discomfort in my right hip. I think I am trying to do too much too fast. Perhaps I need to focus on the training plan I laid out for myself. The end of March goal was 15 miles per week, I hit that with 16 miles this week. I just need to increase that to 20 miles per week by the end of April, while continuing to work on muscle strength and flexibility.
