I am not sure what to think after today’s exercise adventure. After procrastinating as long as possible, I started my PT exercises for the first time in almost two weeks. Both hips were a little tight from the onset, with a little more discomfort on the right side. None of the exercises were any more challenging than before the trip to Sedona. I do not feel like I lost any strength.
It was sunny and 45ยบ F when I finished. With temperatures forecasted to drop for tomorrow, and the possibility of snow, I set out for a short run after I completed my PT exercises. I wanted to see what would happen if I raised my target HR range by 5 BPM, from 120-135 BPM to 125-140 BPM. So, I reprogrammed my watch and headed out.
I covered almost a mile before the High HR alert sounded. Instead of walking I pulled the pace back to a jog. ithin 30 seconds my HR dropped below the high threshold. In another minute the low HR alert sounded, and I picked up the pace. I continued this for the entire run without walking. I completed 4+ miles at just over a 10 minute/mile pace. I was pleased with the pace, but my legs were now reminding me that I ran two days in arow with a full set of PT exercises in between.
My legs, hips and lower back were sore and stiff the rest of the day, with a little more discomfort on the right side. I am not sure what to think because, given my current fitness level, I think I would feel this achy and stiff regardless of my hip issues. Then again, my right side is more achy than my left, so there is still some work to do there. Perhaps tomorrow should be a cycling day.
