I woke up with both my hips feeling pretty good. Only minor discomfort, almost negligible, on my right side. I was ready to go for a run! I set out to run/walk by heart rate. My target range was 120-135 BPM. The first high threshold trigger took a few minutes. I was optimistic. Thereafter, however, I hit the high threshold after 1-2 minutes. I covered 6.5 miles at 11:40 min/mile pace. About 2 minutes per mile slower than where I would like to be now for that distance.
My right hip was really a non-issue. Some minor short periods of achiness, and some tightening up in both hips toward the end. All signs that my running fitness was low. I foam rolled and stretched after the run/walk. I was more concerned about how tired I felt than I was about the discomfort in my hips. I was feeling pretty good about my hips.
Later in the afternoon, the tightness in my right hip started to become pain and discomfort. Flexion on my right side became noticeably more difficult than my right. Nevertheless, I still think the discomfort I am feeling is no worse than when I was running 35+ miles a week last summer. I’ll keep plugging away at my PT exercises with the hope that building strength and flexibility will minimize the discomfort in my hip.
